Come and learn how to make plarn (plastic yarn) and create crocheted items for charity. Mental health benefits of crochet will be covered as well!
At Plarn It Forward*, you will learn how to make plastic yarn "plarn" which can be used to create useful items such as rugs and sleeping mats. The mats can be donated to shelters to help the less fortunate have a more comfortable sleeping experience. By upcycling plastic bags to create plarn, you can help to save the planet by reducing the number of bags that end up in landfills. The mental health benefits of crocheting will also be shared. Materials will be provided.
Note: While there is no special skill needed to create plarn, a basic understanding of crochet (making a foundation chain and single crochet stitches) is necessary to create the items.
*This is a three month series where we will (1) demonstrate how plarn is created, which keeps plastic out of landfills; show how to make crocheted rugs and mats from plarn; and understand the many mental health benefits which crochet provides.Â
