A virtual cooking program where youth learn a recipe, discuss a book, and are introduced to their local food system. Book, cooking utensils, and ingredients provided!
Inspired by the book Bring Me Some Apples and I'll Make You A Pie by Robbin Gourley and Planting Seeds of Knowledge book discussion, learn about the tradition of food and cooking as well as the local food system and land use. Presenters Denise Jamerson with Lyles Station (Legacy Taste of the Garden) and Robin Mallery with Urban Seeds will teach youth ages 8 through 10 (Grades 3-5) how to prepare a recipe while connecting them to the local food system. Prepare a dish to share with family. Start a dialogue about the cooking tradition in your family.
Recipe: Microwave Apple Crisp
Participants will receive copies of the books, ingredients, and utensils necessary to prepare the dish and enjoy the stories together.
